Hold on to your hats! Just when you thought you had a breather after the holidays – here comes Lent!
Next Wednesday, February 6th is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the Lenten season of the church. As you enter the church on Ash Wednesday, try to take in what you don’t see, no flowers or decorations of any kind. It’s a far cry from the lights and colors of Christmas. This lack of decoration helps us to remember why we observe the season of Lent, a season for prayer, fasting and almsgiving. However, rather than looking at Lent this year as a season to “do without”, let us think about what can be done this season to improve our spiritual lives.
During classes with Junior High we have talked about the corporal works of mercy. Mercy doesn’t just mean forgiving someone who has “done us wrong”. Works of mercy can occur throughout each day; those simple, small things we can do for our spouses, children, friends, neighbors, teachers, even down to giving the grocery clerk a smile of acknowledgement. This Lent, let us “do small things with great love” to quote Mother Theresa, whose simple acts of kindness for others led to lives of dignity for those shunned by society.
Please note: Schedule change for Junior High PSR – 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Class on Tuesday, February 26th has been rescheduled. Junior High students will attend the Parish Reconciliation Service on Wednesday, February 27th at 7:30. All Junior High Students are expected to attend as part of their religious education and faith formation.
This scheduling change has occurred in order that PSR Junior High students can experience this beautiful sacrament with their families and with the parish.
